Prevention of beta cell loss

Research Description

The teams will explore recent technological advances that have provided insights into early stages of T1D development and suggest intimate interactions between immune and insulin-producing beta cells over a prolonged period of time. The intent is to model immune/beta cell interactions in cell culture and in mice to learn about how the cells communicate and how the interactions can be perturbed to block beta cell destruction. These high throughput, integrated tissue-based and single-cell approaches will unravel the inherent complexity of the diverse immune cell populations driving T1D development.
