Directors’ Message

Drs. Seung Kim and Matthias Hebrok

“One of the central challenges in T1D has been identifying and targeting interactions required for autoimmune assault of human islets by immune cells. This team of superb and innovative investigators will combine novel hypotheses with modern tools to address such outstanding questions in type 1 diabetes (T1D) pathogenesis. We envision that successful investigations in this crucial area of T1D research by this CoE team will enable cell-based replacement therapies to move us closer to a cure for T1D.”

Our Center aims to enhance the depth, complementarity and productivity of interactions between Scientists at Stanford and UCSF. Based on the advantages of state-of-the-art human cell-based models and established technologies to study human tissues, we will expand understanding of the inception, progression and control of autoimmunity in T1D. The experience of our team members offers a clear strategy for translating findings into clinical approaches.
